Staika 365

staika

A shot of my new tent, the Hilleberg Staika. My old tent, a bibler fitzroy from back in the day before the black diamond buy out failed miserably in the field a few months ago and has since been decommissioned. I'm still working it through with black diamond.

Shot with a 35mm f/1.4. Side note, I want to take this tent up mount Kilimanjaro.

PS - I had a hard time finding good first person reviews and photos of this tent online that were even remotely recent so if you found this while searching for Staika information, hit me up personally or leave a comment and I'd be happy to help out.

  1. You offered… :)

How do you like your Staika?

I’m looking seriously at this model or the Saivo (if the Staika’s not big enough) for self-supported bicycle touring with my partner. So, two people (I’m 6’2″), four panniers and two bikes (the bikes stay outside). What are your impressions on the size of your tent? Do you use it solo or with another?

The inner tent of the Staika is larger by almost 10sqft, taller by 4″ and sports a second vestibule – each when compared to my current (and old) North Face Tadpole. So, given these size comparisons (and not even comparing the technical points) its definitely an improvement. My only concern is the space issue given that I could always spring (gulp!) for the Saivo (bigger, heavier, vestibules are at top and bottom instead of the preferred side and side). I’d prefer the smaller package (Staika) if its adequate for two of us. The ability to pitch anywhere is a plus as well. We’ll occasionally have to spend a day or two waiting out weather or just resting so more room is always nice to have, though.

    Your thoughts?

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

    Kai
